Middle school wrestlers split matches

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school wrestling team split a pair of matches on Wednesday at the Pineland gymnasium.

The young Packers defeated Lee County 50-33 before falling to Turner County 34-24 in a shorten match.

Against Lee County, Colquitt got pins from Sam Clements, Jay Jones, Travis Register, Vandell Gordon, Todd Lynch and Bryce Giddens. Jacob Hall and Anderson Glenn won by major decision. Chris Doyle and Kevin Lemire was by decision.

The meeting with Turner County was stopped with two matches remaining because the visitors had to leave to return home.

The Packers trailed 34-24 when the match was stopped.

“It was possible (the Packers could have won),” coach Travis Torbert said. “But that’s all right.”

Colquitt County’s 24 points cam on pins by Glenn, Hall, Register and Jesse Goff.

The middle school Packers will wrestle in the Tomcat Invitational at Valdosta Middle School beginning at 9 a.m. today.
