MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County basketball teams were unable to make up any ground in the battle for Region 1-AAAAA tournament seeding on Tuesday, dropping a pair of games to Coffee High in Douglas.

The Lady Packers fell in the evening’s opener, 39-33.

The Packers fell behind by 15 points at halftime and wound up losing 73-53.

After the Lady Packers loss, Colquitt County girls coach Joe Parker said, “I haven’t looked at the shot chart and I don’t want to.”

No wonder.

Col-quitt’s girls, who were chasing a No. 2 seed for next week’s Region 1-AAAAA tournament, hit just 13-of-49 from the field in falling to a team they defeated by 13 points three weeks ago at home.

Parker said his team missed 19 shots in the paint.

“We could not throw it in the ocean,” Parker said. “Nobody could score.”

Colquitt’s girls had played well in their last two games, but the loss drops them to 6-4 in the region standings and 15-8 overall.

The game was tied at 9-9 at the end of the first quarter and the Lady Packers led by one 16-15 at the half.

But the Lady Trojans took a 28-27 lead into the fourth quarter and held on to the victory then brought their region record to 4-5.

Coffee closes out its region schedule at home against Houston County on Friday.

The Lady Packers were led in scoring by Taquella Coates, who had 13.

Dorothy Strong and Ashley Stafford each had six, Nikki Hudson had four and Jessica Lemus and Nicolle Thomas each had two points.

In Tifton on Tuesday, Tift County clinched the top seed in the region girls tournament by defeating Lowndes 54-44.

Colquitt’s boys coach Kirven Davis said his team made a second-half run to cut the deficit to eight, before Coffee finished strong.

The loss drops the Packers to 11-11 overall and 4-6 in the region.

Coffee’s boys are 4-5 with a game at home against Houston County on Friday.

The Packers and Trojans, if they finish No. 4 and No. 5 in the region, would meet in the first round of the tournament that starts next Thursday in Tifton.

On Tuesday, the Packers got 16 points from Antwan Tuff and 14 from Jeremy DeBruce.

Corey Goss added seven, Amar Parikh had five, James Trimble and Orion Ponder had four each and Andrew Wallace had three.

Also on Tuesday, the Lowndes boys dealt Tift County its first region loss of the season, winning 86-81 in double overtime.

Despite the loss, Tift County’s Justin Brownlee scored 42 points.

The region schedule closes out with Lowndes traveling to Valdosta and Tift County going to Houston County on Saturday.

Colquitt County has two non-region dates in which to prepare for the region tournament.

The Packers and Lady Packers will travel to Bainbridge on Friday and then will play their final home regular-season games on Saturday night against Thomas County Central.
