MOULTRIE — Despite competing without point leader Caroline Rogers, who was out with an illness, the Colquitt County girls swim team finished 13th out of 18 teams in Saturday’s Trojan Invitational, hosted by Lee County High and held at Darton College.

The boys team finished tied for 15th.

The meet was the last of the season for the rebuilding program, led by Pennie Casteel and community coach Terry Peek.

The lone points scored for Colquitt County were by freshman Amy Peek, who finished sixth in the 200-yard individual medley.

Camden County took first place in the girls competition, scoring 171 points.

Lee County was second with 84 points, followed by Columbus, Bainbridge, Northside-Columbus, Ware County, Jeff Davis, Perry, Coffee, Wayne County, Westover, Thomasville and Colquitt County.

Columbus won the boys portion of the meet with 98 points, Bainbridge was second with 83.

Also competing for Colquitt County were Kristen Robinson, Katy Weilbrenner, Becky Beason, Taylor Walsh, Carter Jones, Caleb Meister, Andrew Parker, Chris Mercer, Jacob Cobb, Emily Casteel, Sarah Price, Lindsay Hargrove and Ashlee Paramore.

“This was probably the stiffest competition of the season for our new team,” Terry Peek said. “Most swimmers had personal bests in this meet, swimming at a very fast Darton College pool.”
