Betty Amanda Rogers Downing

NORMAN PARK — Betty Amanda Rogers Downing, 32, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shane Ashley officiating. Burial will follow at Deep Bottom Cemetery. Kaine Bennett, Brennon Bennett, Jamie Thompson, Jamie Collins, Eddie Tapp and Josh Shaw will serve as pallbearers.

Born Oct. 12, 1973, in Thomas County, she was the daughter of Mary Huffman Miller and William Randolph Miller and she was also a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William M. Huffman and Francis Huffman and C.E. Rogers and Helen Rogers; a great-grandparent, Gusta Huffman; and aunt, Gloria J. Hogan.

Survivors include her husband, Tate Bennett of Norman Park; sons, Corey Tate Bennett and Tristen Blake Bennett, both of Norman Park; daughters, Marianne Amanda Downing and Shelliann Rebecca Downing, both of Norman Park; brothers, Teddy E. Kearney and wife April of Thomasville, Anthony D. Kearney and wife Tammy of Norman Park, Steve D. Rogers Jr. and wife Sunny Jo of Norman Park and Benjamin J. Rogers of Atlanta; sisters, Karen Rogers of Panama City, Fla., Krista Gills and husband Blake of Panama City, Fla., and Casey L. Nix and husband Chris of Meigs; grandparents, Robert Chaney and wife Betty of Norman Park; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Baker Funeral Home.

Hallis E. “Hal” Hewett (PICTURE) (VETERAN)

GRIFFIN — Hallis E. “Hal” Hewett, age 74 of Griffin, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Christian Ministries Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. in the Carver Road Baptist Church. The Rev. Tom Summers and David Walden will officiate. Interment will be private. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Hewett was born April 11, 1931, in Adel, Ga., son of the late Arlie Franklin and Lucy Mills Hewett. He was a member and former deacon of Carver Road Baptist Church. He was retired from the University of Georgia. He was a dedicated volunteer at Atkinson Elementary School and received several awards for his dedication to education. He was awarded Employee of the Year for the University of Georgia in 2004. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 5448. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Combat Infantryman’s Badge.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Viola Mercer Hewett of Griffin; children, Barbara and Jonathan Hilton of Jackson, Hallis E. Jr. “Chip” and Stacey Hewett, also of Jackson; sister, Blanche Hewett and J.J. Ray of Valdosta; grandchildren, Sarah and Laura Cody, Michael and Matthew Hewett; great-grandson, Austin Jenkins and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that those who wish may make donations to the Carver Road Baptist Church, 334 Carver Road, Griffin, GA 30224 in memory of Mr. Hewett.

Lucille H. Hart

QUITMAN — Lucille H. Hart, 90, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at Magnolia Manor South Chapel. Burial will follow in China Grove Cemetery.

Born Dec. 20, 1915, in Colquitt County, Mrs. Hart was the daughter of the late Enoch H. Hiers and the late Mollie Hiers. She was a homemaker and a member of China Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earnest W. Hart; a brother, E.H. Hiers Jr.; and a sister, Evelyn Castleberry.

Survivors include a son, Ray Hart and wife Janice of Waycross; a daughter, Earnestine Clark and husband Harry of Valdosta; four grandchildren, Ginny Thacker, Scott Adams, Sherry Walls and Steven Clark; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, at the church.

THOMASVILLE — Crissie Mae Moore, 76, of Thomasville died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at the Brian Center in Thomasville.
