Sharks second in YMCA swim meet

MOULTRIE — The Moultrie Sharks Swim Team played host to its own meet on Saturday at the Moultrie YMCA and came within 18 points of keeping the first-place trophy in Colquitt County.
The Albany YMCA won the meet with a combined team score of 764 points.
But the Sharks were right on their tail, with 746 points.
The Waycross YMCA was a distant third, followed by the Bainbridge extreme Swim Team, the Thomasville Riptide and the Douglas Stingrays.
Led by Kelcie Gilmore, the Sharks finished first among the six girls teams with 548 points, finishing 147 points ahead of Albany.
The Sharks were fourth in the boys standings, despite age group high-point titles by Austin Vines and Connor Walsh.
Gilmore contributed 60 points to the team’s totals to finish first among the 10 girls in the 11-12 age group.
She finished first in all five events she entered: 50-meter freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle.
Vines, too, was unbeaten his five events in the boys 9-10 age group, winning the 50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 100 individual medley, 50 backstroke and 100 freestyle.
Walsh came within a whisker of winning five events as well.
Swimming in the 11-12 boys age group, he won the 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 100 freestyle and was second in the 50 breaststroke.
Sara Jenkins was second in the 13-14 girls age group, with runner-up finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and third-place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke.
Sully Pollard was third in the 13-14 boys age group, finishing second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle.
Linzee Rehberg performed well in the two 8-and-under girls events she entered, winning the 25 breaststroke and finishing second in the 25 butterfly.
Haley Goodman won the 50 breaststroke in the 11-12 girls competition and was third in the 100 freestyle.
Caroline Palmer, swimming in 6-and-unders, was first in the 25 butterfly and third in the 25 breaststroke.
Also turning in top-three finishes were:
• Ansley Moore, in 9-10 girls, second in 50 breaststroke, 50 backstroke, 50 butterfly and third in 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
• Jessica Price, in 13-14 girls, second in 200 individual medley.
• Hayden Van Dalsem, 11-12 girls, second in 50 backstroke and third in 50 butterfly.
• Staci Repass, 11-12 girls, third in 50 backstroke.
• Sarah Gibson, 6-and-under girls, second in 25 butterfly.
• Andy Alekseichuk, 9-10 boys, second in 50 butterfly.
The 11-12 girls 200 freestyle relay team of Haley Goodman, Staci Repass, Hayden Van Dalsem and Kelcie Gilmore took a first place finish. The same four girls combined to take a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
