Sutton still alive in state wrestling

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County High heavyweight Antonio Sutton won two matches at the Class AAAAA state wrestling meet at the Gwinnett Center on Thursday and faces two matches today.

Sutton, the Region 1-AAAAA champion who is now 34-1 this season, won both of his Thursday matches by pins.

In his first match, he pinned Warren Jackson of Mundy’s Mill in 58 seconds.

In his second match, it took him until the third round to pin Antonio Solomon of Jenkins.

In his first match today, Sutton will face Joe Behmann of Newton.

The finals are set for Saturday.

The two other Colquitt County High wrestlers who qualified for the state tournament were eliminated on Thursday.

At 135, Zacory Weaver was pinned in his first match by Corey Grizzard of Groves High.

In his second match, Weaver was pinned by Patrick Maurer of South Gwinnett.

At 215, Felix Cruz was pinned in the third round of his first match by Leon Delain of Collins Hill.

In the second round, Cruz was pinned by Demetrius Blake of Meadowcreek.
