Friendship Missionary Baptist to hold women’s conference

MOULTRIE — Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will hold its annual Women’s Conference on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 6-7.
The opening program, on Friday at 7 p.m., will include devotional services, songs, the purpose of the conference and Tribute To Women by Mary Strong.
Saturday’s activities will begin at 8 a.m. with a prayer breakfast. Other activities will include: Get aquainted; praise, prayer and testimony; and a panel discussion/question and answer. The panel will include Stephanie Moses, Margaret Mathis, Eula Willis and Tiffany Cooper.
Moses, who will be presenting “Characteristics of a Virtuous Woman,” is the daughter of Melba McCray and the late Morris McCray. She earned a bachelor’s of science degree in early childhood education and a master’s of education in instructional technology. For five years she has taught at R.B. Wright Elementary School and is currently serving as a kindergarten teacher. She and her husband, Michael, have two daughters, Jasmine and Candace. She is a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she serves as Sunday school teacher, pianist and on the Christian Education Committee.
Mathis, who will be presenting “The Spirit Against the Flesh, the Flesh Against the Spirit,” is the daughter of Fronnie Clark and the late Dave Clark. She is a graduate of William Bryant High School and also attended Moultrie Technical College. She is the mother of one daughter and the wife of Pastor Henry Mathis Jr. She serves as president of the Women’s Department of the Second District Home Mission Union. She also serves on the Moultrie-Colquitt County Planning Commission. She is active in several auxiliaries at Richland Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, Ga., where her husband is pastor. She is employed at Moultrie Manufacturing Company in customer service.
Willis, who will be presenting “Keeping the Faith in the Time of Crisis,” is a retired educator. She is a member of Mother Easter Baptist Church where she serves as deaconess, Sunday school teacher, past president of the Missionary Society and youth director as well as on the J.B. Lewis Missionary Circle and the Education Committee. She is a member of Queen Esther Chapter 67 O.E.S., past Worthy Matron, past Illustrious Commandress Al Rakin Court 13 Daughter of Isis in Albany, Ga., past Loyal Lady Ruler and Dicena Searles Assembly 176 Order of the Golden Circle in Albany, Ga. She is a member of the Women’s Federated Club, life member of the Colquitt County Branch of the NAACP, Colquitt County Retired Educators Association, Georgia Retired Educators Association, Georgia Association of Educators and American Legion Auxiliary. She has served as a volunteer for the United Way, Heart Fund, Cancer Society, and election worker for Colquitt County. She was married to the late James Willis, a retired educator, and is the mother of two children.
Cooper, who will be presenting “Making and Keeping Your Spiritual Commitment,” is the daughter of Evangelist Crystal Cooper and Minister Moses Cooper. She graduated summa cum laude from Savannah State University, where she received her bachelor’s of science degree in political science. She has labored in ministry since the age of 15. She has worked with at-risk youth and counseled homicide victims’ family members. She resides in Atlanta, where she attends the Ray of Hope Christian Church and serves as one of the lead ushers and a youth minister. Her career involves real estate and managing Waffle Houses.
Following the lunch, the afternoon will include praise and worship services featuring the keynote speaker, Pastor Joann Hassell.
Hassell is the daughter of Myron Trim and the late Joe Trim. She is the fifth of 10 siblings and received her formal education in the public schools of Sylvester, Ga. She obtained college education abroad while serving in the armed forces for 11 years. She then worked in civil services for nine years. She is married to Anias Hassell and is the mother of Kedra, Shamonique, Anias II and Samuel II. She is also the grandmother of Nytashia “Candy” and Zeniyah “Peaches.” She has served in ministry for more than 20 years and performed ministry in Germany as well as the United States. She has served as missionary, evangelist, district missionary and co-state supervisor. As a teacher, she teaches classes ranging from the nursery to adults and leaders. As a pastor, she led Healing Stream Ministries Mission of Moultrie and is now the senior pastor of Healing Stream Ministries of Columbus, Ga. As an evangelist, she has visited many churches preaching. She works apostolically with her husband and they have founded Word of Truth Community Development Corporation, Inc. She has established an early learning center, which houses a summer camp, afterschool program, childcare and other youth activities. She and her husband have also embarked on a charter school for K-3rd and pre-kindergarten.
The theme for this year’s conference is “Women Kept By God” and the mascot is the dove. The registration fee is $10.
