Julia Mae Willis Chafin

NORMAN PARK — Julia Mae Willis Chafin, 90, of Cool Springs Road, Norman Park, died Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Cool Springs Freewill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Mitch Griffin will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Jimmy Voyles. Casketbearers will be Jessie Pope, Glenn Chafin, Darrell Waites, Kent Hamilton, Shannon Norman and Gary Hamm.

Mrs. Chafin was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Liniville, Ala., to H.E. Willis and Lois Nelson Willis, both deceased. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Cool Springs Freewill Baptist Church. She worked on the bookmobile and was a pink lady at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. She taught Sunday school for several years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, M.A. Chafin; two brothers, Henry Elbert Willis and Edwin Willis; a sister, Edna Genette Willis; and a grandchild, Bobby Jenkins.

Survivors include a daughter, Gayle Chafin Sears and husband Ronald of Norman Park; two brothers, Charles Lawrence Willis and wife Joann Willis of Plant City, Fla., and Beuford Nelson Willis and wife Genny of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister, Lorene Willis Cranford of Plant City, Fla.; sisters-iin-law, Jim Willis Carruthers and Myrtle Hamm Willis, both of Tampa, Fla.; granddaughter, Julia Lucinda Yates and husband Eric; great-grandchild, Damon Yates of Moultrie; and great-great-grandchild, Noah Yates.

Marion Eugene Childs Sr.

MOULTRIE — Marion Eugene Childs Sr., 88, of South Main Street in Moultrie, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, July 16, at Harrell Faircloth Funeral Home with burial at Westview Cemetery. The Rev. J.E. Moak will officiate, assisted by the Revs. Jerry Mahan and Roger Benton. Casketbearers will be Dale Culp, J.D. Goings, R.A. Summerford, Roy Reeves, George Hiers and Earl Blanchard.

Mr. Childs was born Sept. 13, 1917, in Dooly County, Ga., to the late Willie Vernon Childs and Kate Spears Childs. He was the retired office manager for Kelly Reeves Furniture. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was former chairman of the Board of Deacons, Sunday school superintendent, treasurer of the church, president of the Keenagers and adult Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with Gen. George Patton in the 95th Infantry Division. He served on the board of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Bragg Childs of Moultrie; one son, Dr. Ronald Elkin Childs and wife Peggy of Bainbridge; and five grandchildren, Chance, Charlie, Sarah, Zachary and Dr. April Childs.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Marion Eugene Childs Jr.; four sisters; and three brothers.

Earl Marvin “Marty” Tillman Jr.

VADA, Ga. — Earl Marvin “Marty” Tillman Jr., 47, died Friday, July 14, 2006, at his residence in Vada.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today, July 16, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel in Bainbridge, Ga., with the Rev. Billy Southerland officiating. A graveside service will be held at 7 p.m. today, July 16, at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery near Coolidge. Pallbearers will be Bud Tillman, Raleigh Tillman, Joe Anderson, Phil Long, Earl Boyett and Ronnie Martin.

Mr. Tillman was born Sept. 26, 1958, in Colquitt County, Ga., the son of Earl Marvin Tillman and Betty Lawrence Tillman. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1977 and did parking lot maintenance. He was a member of Black Jack Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Lawrence Tillman of Vada; a son, Matt Tillman of Bainbridge; a daughter, Kasey Tillman of Bainbridge; and two sisters, Gena T. Parker and Lori T. Sego, both of Bainbridge.
