Arthur Henry Ellis

NORMAN PARK — Arthur Henry Ellis, 83, of Norman Park died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Norman Park First Baptist Church with the Rev. Sammy Hiers officiating assisted by the Revs. Shane Ashley and Jimmy Voyles. Burial will follow in Deep Bottom Cemetery with Buddy Horne, David Johnson, Ken Weaver, Buddy Morris, John Bass and Chris Owens will serve as pallbearers.

Born Oct. 30, 1922, in Tift County, he was the son of the late Eli Ellis and Lucinda Clements Ellis. He was retired from the United States Marines after 30 years of service. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles Ellis; his daughter, Patricia Ellis; brothers, Thomas Ellis and James Ellis; and sisters, Martha Jane Ranier, Lucy Lupo, Nancy Ross, Sarah Fields, Evie Kirkland, Katie Fountain and Frances Collier.

Survivors include his wife, Georgianna Harris Ellis of Norman Park; sons, Art Ellis Jr. and wife Molly of Moultrie, Doug Ellis of Norman Park, James Ellis and wife Jennifer of Moultrie and Billy Ellis of Norman Park; sister, Nellie Shultz of Orange City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Arlene Ellis of Guyton, Ga., Gina, Samantha and Matthew Ellis of Moultrie, Jason Sellers and wife Victoria of Moultrie and April Smith and husband Daniel of Moultrie; five great-grandchildren, Kristi, David and Jennie Ellis of Guyton, Ga., Autumn Harrell of Moultrie and Summer Ricks of Moultrie; and special family friends, Alvin Jones and David Johnson of Norman Park and Bret D. Murray of Clarksville, Tenn.

Visitation will be tonight, May 31, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Nellie Mae Byers Morris

QUITMAN — Nellie Mae Byers Morris, 86, of Quitman, died Monday, May 29, 2006, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Born Oct. 27, 1919 in Colquitt County, she was the daughter of the late Howell Byers and Mary Byers and she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Staley Morris; and her son, James Staley Morris Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Scott of Moultrie; a sister, Julia Parker of Valrico, Fla.; a grandchild, Kathey Conner and husband Roger; and one great-grandchild, R. J. Conner.

Nettie Pearl Hall Edge

HARRIMAN, Tenn. — Nettie Pearl Hall Edge, 93, formerly of Albany, Ga., died Friday, May 26, 2006, at her residence in Harriman, Tenn.

Graveside rites will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at Doerun Cemetery with Brother Vic Davis and Brother Jonathon Bradford officiating.

She was a member of Faith Primitive Baptist Church of Harriman, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Edge; and a daughter, Dorothy “Dot” Weatherly.

Survivors include special care-giver, Francis Edwards; brother, Issac Hall and wife Evelyn of Doerun; sister, Eva Nell Harnage of Moultrie; three grandchildren, Elaine Byrge and husband Lynn, Keith Weatherly of Harriman, Tenn., and Allen Weatherly and wife Heather of Harriman, Tenn.; and five great-grandchildren, Christine Weatherly, Elizabeth Weatherly, Savannah Weatherly, Anthony Weatherly and Kimberly Byrge.

Visitation will be Friday, June 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Ralph Stanley Pate

PELHAM — Ralph Stanley Pate, 66, of Pelham died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Elder Max Childs officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens with Robin Norman, Jay Norman, Berry Davis, Richard Pate, Mark Fuches, Craig Vines and other nephews serving as pallbearers.

Born April 24, 1940, in Colquitt County, he was the son of Nellie Hatchett Pate of Moultrie and the late Louie Jefferson Pate. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Davis Pate of Pelham; brothers, L.H. Pate and wife Debra of Newton, Ga., W. Jesse Pate and wife Joan of Byron, Ga., Arlie J. Pate and wife Betty of Doerun, and Larance E. “Neal” Pate of Texas; sisters, Eva Nelms and husband Robert of Moultrie, Mary Vines and husband Bruce of Moultrie, Margie Haney and husband Michael of Moultrie, and Georgia Grimsley and husband Ray of Colquitt, Ga.; and 32 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be tonight, May 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

The family may be contacted at the home of Mrs. Linda Davis Pate, 373 Green St. in Pelham and on Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Vines, 9 Flint Ridge Road in Moultrie.

Lester Douglas Griffin

QUITMAN — Lester Douglas Griffin, 69, of Quitman died Monday, May 29, 2006, at Smith Northview Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 1, in the Maxwell-Miller Chapel with the Rev. Ben D’Amico officiating.

Born in Colquitt County, he was the son of John Alton and Alean Plymel Griffin. He was a retired insurance salesman, member of Northside Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Griffin and husband William of Quitman, Ga.; a son, Alan Griffin and wife Stefanie of Quitman, Ga.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Mandy, Ashley, Stefan, and Sissy; a sister, Myrna Huffmaster and husband Samuel of Quitman, Ga.; four brothers, James Griffin of Charleston, S.C., Gene Griffin and wife Therlisel of Martinez, Ga., Bennie Griffin and wife Doris of Moultrie and Randall Griffin and wife Hilda of Quitman, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 1.
