MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school soccer teams continue to be unbeaten after Saturday’s sweep of Coffee Middle School in Douglas.
Neither trailed as the girls team rebounded from a tough 1-1 tie at Lee County on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory over the Lady Trojans.
The Colquitt County middle school boys made goals by Gustavo Zapote and Rich Tyndall hold up in a 2-1 victory.
Colquitt County girls coach Ashley Hill started nine players who did not get much playing time in the tie with Lee County and he could not be happier with the results.
The group held Coffee scoreless and chipped in a goal of its own when Jordan Hammack scored her second goal of the season in the 11th minute.
“They played well together,” Hill said.
That goal was the only one scored in the first half, but Lindsay Causey wasted little time making it 2-0 when she score her sixth goal of the season just 1:10 into the second half.
Eight minutes later, Carly Banks got her third goal of the season to close out the scoring.
The middle school boys were foiled in their attempt for a fifth straight shutout, but coach Keith Summerlin said the Coffee goal was a legitmate one, scored on a header after a cross.
“We’re really starting to look like a team,” Summerlin said.
Summerlin praised the work of sweeper Tyler Dismuke.
“He won’t score a lot of goals, but when he is on the field, he leaves everything out there,” Summerlin said.
“He does a tremendous job of taking care of his responsibilities.”
The middle school teams will be back at Mack Tharpe Stadium at Tom White Field on Saturday for a rematch with Lee County.
