Eubanks, Southwell playing in Virginia

MOULTRIE — Former Colquitt County High and current Georgia Southern teammates Aaron Eubanks and Will Southwell are playing this summer for the Danville (Va.) Cougars in the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League. The Cougars are 2-1 in the early going and will travel to meet the Pulaski (Va.) Pirates today.

n The Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department held its annual fishing rodeo on Saturday at the Magnolia Sports Complex pond.
The winners include 5-and-under boys, Casyn Miley, 14 1/2-inch fish. 5-and-under girls, Hannah Hood, 16 1/2-inch; Shakya Williams, 15-inch;
6-8 boys, Levi Tompkins, 13 1/2-inch; Harrison Bell, 11-inch. 6-8 girls, Cheyenne Dahlgren, 16 1/2-inch; Victoria Barber, 15 1/2-inch; Evelyn Fagan, 15 1/2-inch.
9-11 boys, Andrew Bridwell, 20-inch, the biggest fish caught on Saturday; Taylor Sellers, 15 3/4-inch; 9-11 girls, McKenzie Willis, 14 3/4-inch.
12-15 boys, Vann Pitts, 15 1/2-inch; 12-15 girls, Samantha Brown, 14 1/2.
The fishing rodeo is sponsored each year by the recreation department and Larry’s Bait and Tackle.
Recreation officials estimated that between 185-200 youngsters took part.
n It appears that the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department will not play host to a District III baseball tournament this summer.
The District 10-and-under boys with pitching maching tournament will be held June 26-30 in Leesburg.
The 12-and-unders will go to Thomasville that same week.
And the 14-and-unders will play in Bainbridge June 19-24.
Colquitt County will send two teams to each of the tournaments.
The 10-and-under state tournament will be in Vidalia; the 12-and-under, in Waycross; and the 14-and-under in Glynn County.
The Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex will be the site of the District 14-and-under girls fast-pitch tournament, to be held the week of June 26.
The 10-and-under all-stars will go to Tifton for District play; the 12-and-unders to Thomasville; and the 17-and-unders also to Thomasville.
All the district tournaments will be held beginning June 26.
The 10-and-under girls state tournament also will be Tifton, July 20-22; the 12-and-under, in Dublin, July 20-22; the 14-and-under, in Vidalia, July 13-15; and the 17-and-under, in Gordon County. The 14-and-under state tournament will be held July 13-15 in Vidalia.
n Cole Willis, son of former Colquitt County High golfer Zess Willis, was the long drive champion at the recent National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I championship, played in Ruidoso, N.M.
Cole Willis, a freshman at Cenral Alabama Community College, had a drive of 367.
Central Alabama shot a 36-under par and finished seventh in the National Championship. Willis shot a 4-under par to finish 45th.
n The Abraham Baldwin College men’s basketball team will hold its “Emergency 18” golf tournament beginning at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Golf Club of South Georgia in Tifton.
A total of $1,300 in prize money is being offered, with the first-place team getting $700; the second-place team getting $400; and the third-place getting $200.
A new car donated by Griffin Ford-Lincoln-Mercury will go to a golfer who scores a hole in one and there will be a long drive contest for cash.
The format is: holes 1-6, scramble; holes 7-12, best ball: holes 13-18, alternating shots. The field will be made up of two-man teams. The cost to enter is $100 per player.
