Virginia J. Thompson
MOULTRIE — Virginia J. Thompson, 75, of Moultrie died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Dee, the Rev. Steve Comer and the Rev. Ronald Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens. Tommy Thompson, David Huffstetler, Glenn Strickland, Tony Walker, Adam Robinson and Jeffery Aldridge will serve as casketbearers.
Born Sept. 14, 1931, in Dougherty County, Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Pearl Peacock Johnson and the late Jefferson Cordy Johnson. She was a homemaker and was a member of Christian Crusade Church.
Survivors include her husband, John Robert Thompson Jr. of Moultrie; a son, John R. “Robbie” Thompson III and wife Donna of Moultrie; a daughter, Gina Ann Thompson and significant other Johnny Crawford of Moultrie; a brother, James Johnson and wife Gladys of Moultrie; a sister, Mary Ann Herrington of Moultrie; two grandchildren, John R. “Bobbie” Thompson IV and James Derek “Jamie” Thompson, both of Moultrie; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Ima Jo Garrett Lang
VALDOSTA — Ima Jo Garrett Lang, 86, of Valdosta and formerly of Omega, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at the Fellowship Home after a lengthy illness.
Funeral plans will be announced. The family will receive friends this evening, Jan. 18, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta.
Born on May 15, 1920, in Doerun, she was the daughter of the late H. W. “Woody” Garrett and Josie Lee Prince Garrett and the widow of the late W. L. “Bub” Lang. Her father, owner and editor of the Doerun Courier, operated the last newspaper in Georgia in which type was set by hand. Her husband first met her at her father’s print shop when he visited in Doerun seeking tips on running his own weekly newspaper in Omega. They later married. She was instrumental in helping her husband run the Omega News while he was in the Navy during the war and until his retirement from the newspaper after 40 years of operation in 1980.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Florence Garrett Wakefield; and grandsons, Leighton Joyner and Matt Joyner.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Dan Joyner of Valdosta and her son, Leighton Lang of Miami, Fla.
