MOULTRIE — Finishing touches are being made to this year’s Spring Fling and Back Yard Barbecue Festival, which will take place Friday, April 20, and Saturday, April 21. The event will begin with the Friday night kick off concert featuring Earl Thomas Conley. Conley has had more than 18 No. 1 hits.
On Saturday, there will be a day full of arts and crafts, the famous Backyard Barbecue competition, entertainment.
Back by popular demand this year is “Moultrie Idol” and “Moultrie Junior Idol.” Colquitt County Arts Center will be in charge of the Idol competition that will take place on the square.
This year the Downtown Moultrie Association, in conjunction with the Main Street Program, will be selling raffle tickets for a customized golf cart and a set of cultured pearls. The proceeds from the sales will be used on the Spring Fling Festival and other downtown improvements. Tickets can be purchased at participating merchants.
Applications are being accepted for the back yard barbecue competition, art and craft vendors, and Moultrie Idol contestants. Call the Main Street Office at 890-5455 for more information or to enter a team.
The festival is organized through the City of Moultrie Main Street Department. This year’s corporate sponsor is Southwest Georgia Bank, and other sponsors include Ameris Bank, Larry Franklin Properties, CNS, Rocky’s Trophies, Market Barbecue, Sanderson Farms, Home Depot, Hampton Inn and the Law Office of David Herndon.
