MOULTRIE —The Colquitt County cross country teams will try to qualify for the state meet when the Region 1-AAAAA meet is run today at Freedom Park in Valdosta.
The girls race will be run at 4:30 p.m. The boys will start at 5 p.m.
Colquitt County coach Mell Wier will send out Carly Banks, Karli Brown, Morgan Hayes, Abbey Taylor, Laura Robinson, Lacey Webb and Carla Duque for the girls race. Carly Moore would be running, but is on a trip with the choir.
The boys team includes Tyler Dismuke, Carlos Charles, Julio Perez, Marco Gomez, Nic Price, Craig Dabdoub and Heath Lamb.
Wier says both teams have a shot of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Nov. 19 state cross country meet in Carrollton.
“We are young, with no seniors running, and only half ran on the team last year,” Wier said. “But if we do as we have all year, we should do well.
“We also have some individuals who have a chance to qualify even if the teams do not.”
Warner Robins is considered the favorite to win the boys race. Tift County, with 12 straight region titles under its belt, is the girls favorite.
