City tennis tournament to open

MOULTRIE — The Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s District III tennis tournament was completed on Tuesday and 15 Colquitt County players have qualified for the state tournament.

A number of those players will be back at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex courts today for the opening rounds of the recreation department’s annual City Tennis Tournament for youth.

In District III play on Tuesday, Andrew Harvin won the boys 14-and-under singles division by defeating Braden Anglin of Mitchell County 6-2, 6-4.

Harvin is one of the 15 Colquitt County players eligible to participate in the state tournament, which will be held July 20-21 in Peachtree City.

The other Colquitt County players who qualified for the state tournament are Kayla Kelley, Carli Hester, Constance Terrell, Christopher Harvin, Blake Jenkins, Jacob Tompkins, Christian Edwards, Rachel Funderburk, Bo Blalock, David Forehand, Jay Tolbert, Courtney Terrell, Anna Barber and Cody Jenkins.

The City Tennis Tournament is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. today.

The double-elimination tournament includes 34 boys and girls.

The 10-and-unders playing are Braden Traylor, Cody Jenkins, Donovan Price, Buck Blalock, Courtney Terrell, Anna Barber, Avery Barber, Christine Barber, Amber Kling and Haley Trebony.

The 12-and-unders are Erica Mobley, Alden Rykard, Jay Tolbert, Andy Alekseichuk, David Forehand and Will Bannister.

The 14-and-unders are Kyle Tolbert, Colby Purvis, Andrew Harvin, Coby King, Bo Blalock, Scott Jacobs, Jordan Hammack, Rachel Funderburk, Emily Traylor and Ivy Jane Reeves.

The 16-and-unders are Constance Terrell, Carli Hester, Jacob Tompkins, Blake Jenkins, Chason Forehand, Christopher Harvin and Brandon Oaks.

Jessica Harvin is only 18-and-under participating and she will play in mixed doubles.
