Sandra G. Ranew

NAPLES, Fla. — Sandra G. Ranew, 49, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Moultrie died Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

A funeral service will be held 5 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Fuller Funeral Home is Naples, Fla.

She had been a resident of Naples for the past 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Athlene Pyles; and a sister, Kathy Pickren.

She is survived by her husband, Christopher Ranew of Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Sunni, that she lovingly called “Bug”; sisters, Sherry Manship and husband Mark and Dale Eaton; brothers, Ricky Pyles and wife Lisa and Lamar Pyles; and a large extended family.

Visitation will be today, May 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fuller Funeral Home, located at 1625 Pine Ridge Road in Naples, Fla.

The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society Collier County Unit, 990 First Ave. S., Suite 200, Naples, Fla. 34102.

Catharine J. “Kit” Kirk

MOULTRIE — Catharine J. “Kit” Kirk, 81, of Moultrie died Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Woodlands Living Center.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today, May 19, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Bird officiating. A committal service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Pinecrest Memory Gardens.

Born March 23, 1926, in Butler, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Eleanor Frances Marsh Jahnig and William Cleveland Jahnig. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church and choir, a community volunteer, a member of Moultrie Service League, Federated Guild, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Moultrie Redhatters. She loved golf and bridge.

Survivors include a son, J. Warren Kirk and wife Barbara of Lake Park, Ga.; daughters, Marsha K. Moore and husband Tom of Rock Hill, S.C., and Melissa K. Trammell and husband Wayne of Moultrie; brother, Dr. Paul Jahnig and wife Nancy of Fort Myers, Fla.; grandchildren, Charlie Moore, Kirk Moore, Christopher Trammel, Andy Horne and wife Dana and Mitchell, Beth and Michael Kirk.

Visitation will be following the church service.

Donations may be made to Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church or Colquitt County Regional Hospice.

Lloyd F. Baker

OMEGA — Lloyd F. Baker, 76, of Omega died Friday, May 18, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Omega Baptist Church with Brad Baker officiating assisted by the Rev. Terrell Ruis. Burial will follow in Omega City Cemetery with Brad Baker, Chad Baker, Ron Baker, Timothy Pate, Jamie Pate, Zachary Baker, Jon Patrick and Andrew Summerlin serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence “Tubby” Hawkins, Charles Coker, Gibbs Patrick Jr., Bobby Oliver, Bill Rippy, Joe Richardson, Lamar Burkett, H.R. Wiggins, deacons of Antioch and Omega Baptist Church and workers of GFA of Camilla.

Born Jan. 10, 1931, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Dewey Baker and Iva Ethridge Baker. He was a retired farmer and worked for GFA peanut association. He was a member of Omega Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was also a deacon and song director of Antioch Baptist Church for years. He served as a Colquitt County Commissioner for 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce Allen Baker, and brothers, Lamar Baker and Carol Baker.

Survivors include his wife Maydean Clark Baker of Omega; sons, Wayne Baker and wife Louise of Omega and Ronnie Baker and wife Teri of Omega; a daughter, Jane Pate and husband Larry of Omega; a brother, Marcus Baker and wife Linda of Adel, Ga.; sisters, Mildred Chapman of Macon, Ga., and Evelyn Mason and husband Val of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Brad and Brandy Baker of Valdosta, Ga., Chad and Amy Baker of Snellville, Ga., Ron Baker of Moultrie, Timothy and Carrie Pate of Hahira, Ga., Macie and Jon Patrick of Omega, Jamie Pate of Valdosta, Zachary Baker of Omega and Rebecca Baker of Omega; eight great-grandchildren Hannah Baker, Sarah Baker, Nathan Baker, Mary Baker, Katie Baker, Adam Baker, Maylla Patrick and Anna Patrick.

Visitation will be today, May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Joseph Gregory Burnette

NORMAN PARK — Joseph Gregory Burnette, 57, of Norman Park died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Deep Bottom Cemetery with Bishop Dennis Dauphin. The pallbearers will be Michael Conger, Russell Sauls, Turner Sauls, David Hinson, David Hinson II, Terry Robinson, Blake Spradley and Pete Hinson.

Born Jan. 3, 1950, in Colquitt County, he was the son of Dewitt R. Burnette of Norman Park and the late Stella White Newsome. He worked for Wells Aluminum.

Survivors include brothers, Dewitt “Al” Burnette and wife Mary of Norman Park, Tim Burnette and wife Gail of Doerun, Eric Krogseng of Anchorage, Alaska, and Andy Newsome of Moultrie; and sister, Lynn Iverson and husband Allen of Seattle, Wash.

Visitation will be today, May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bobby J. Gordy

MOULTRIE — Bobby Julian Gordy, 66, of Moultrie died Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Berlin Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Stone, Pastor Clyde Billingsley and the Rev. Preston Norman officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery with Danny Ward, Lee Denham, Mike Jones, Gray Jones, Norris Croft and Jim Avery serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Magnolia Manor Nursing Center and Horace May, Scott Hall and J.D. Taylor. Viewing will be in the church for one hour prior to the service.

Born July 11, 1940, in Norman Park, he was the son of the late Charles Earnest Gordy and Sarah Dowdy Gordy. He had spent his early life in Berlin and had retired from his yard maintenance business. He had resided at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center for the past 24 years. He was a member of Berlin Baptist Church.

He was also preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Survivors include two brothers, James Gordy and his wife Ginny of Ventura, Calif., and Jack Gordy of Corpus Christi, Texas; a sister, Jo Anne Denham and her husband Lynwood of Tifton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, May 19, at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Barbara Meders Smith

TIFTON — Barbara Meders Smith, 63, of Moultrie died Thursday, May 17, 2007, at Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 20, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson with the Rev. Tony Crawley and the Rev. Manuel Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Omega Cemetery with Bobby Wiard, Winfred Giddens, Tony Bishop, Brian Daughterty, Sean Denham, D.J. McMillan, Trent Milliones and Justin Crawley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Crawley, Megan Crawley, Austin Clark, Tyler Bishop and Jacob Weeks.

Born Dec. 31, 1943, in Colquitt County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clemons Meders and Addie Lee Fletcher Meders. She was a homemaker and a member of New Jerusalem Freewill Baptist Church in Moultrie.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Washington “J.W.” Smith; and a sister, Wardine Meders McMillan.

Survivors include three brothers, Henry “Hank” Meders and wife Linda of Omega, James Meders and wife Faye of High Point, N.C., and Walter Meders and wife Susan of Grand Junction, Colo.; four sisters, Carol Meders of Omega, Lavern Brooks and husband Junior of Omega, Marilyn Meders of Florence, S.C., and Helen Meders of Jacksonville, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today, May 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Flourine Hill

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. — Flourine Hill, 71, formerly of Doerun, died May 12, 2007, at Winter Garden, Fla.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the Beulah Grove Baptist Church. burial will follow at the Bailey Chapel Cemetery in Doerun.

Arrangements are by Snow’s Mortuary of Ocala, Fla., with local arrangements by Luke Strong and Son Mortuary of Moultrie.
