MOULTRIE — On the warmest day of the 2007 tennis season, the Colquitt County girls team made quick work of Morrow High at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex on Tuesday and will advance to the second round of the Class AAAAA tournament.

The Lady Packers 5-0 victory will likely mean a trip to McDonough to play Union Grove in the second round of the tournament.

Union Grove, the Region 2-AAAAA champion, played Windsor Forest, the No. 4 team from Region 3, on Tuesday.

The Lady Packers, the Region 1-AAAAA runners-up, made good use of their homecourt advantage and won three quick points to dispatch the Lady Mustangs.

The No. 2 doubles team of sophomores Kate Reeves and Alexa Isaacs hardly worked up a sweat, defeating Hai Bui and Thuong Le, 6-0, 6-0.

Laura Murphy was having a similar match nearby at No. 3 singles. Murphy, also a sophomore, breezed past Hang Tran 6-0, 6-0.

Carli Hester, a fourth sophomore, got the deciding point when she battled past Brittany DeLoach 6-1, 6-0.

Berl was especially pleased with Hester’s performance.

“Carli was aggressive,” said Berl. “She took it to (DeLoach) with some power.”

The Lady Packers No. 1 doubles team of juniors Savanna Lamon and Jessica Harvin won over Demi Olatunji and Laura Stahley, 6-2, 6-3.

Cara McCalley, the Lady Packers fifth sophomore, finished off Morrow with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Gionni McClellan at No. 1 singles.
