MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school soccer teams swept a pair of matches at Worth County on Monday while the junior varsity teams were splitting two games at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium against Lowndes.

The Colquitt County junior varsity girls got their first victory of the season with a 6-0 shutout of Lowndes.

Lacey Webb had two goals and an assist, Hannah Vereen added two goals, Lindsey Causey had one and Marlena Medina added another when she punched in a outstanding corner from Avery Castellow.

The victory raises the JV girls record to 1-3 with a trip to Douglas to meet Coffee scheduled for Saturday.

Coach Andy Chapura said Medina and Causey did an excellent job in the midfield.

“And we were very tough on defense,” Chapura said. “All the girls played very well.”

The JV boys continue to have trouble defensively in the midfield and dropped a 3-0 decision to Lowndes in the second game.

The JV Packers trailed 1-0 at the half and made some changes in the second half.

“We looked better in the second half,” coach Ashley Hill said. “But they got behind our midfield and put two more in in the second half.”

Hill said keeper Victor Guerra “played his heart out.”

In Sylvester, the Colquitt County played Worth County’s first-year teams and the results were predictable.

In the girls match, Lauren Kelshaw scored four times in the first half and Jordan Hammack and Laura Veasey added goals in the second half for a 6-0 Colquitt County victory.

The middle school girls are now 2-0 and Kelshaw has six goals. She also has scored one for the junior varsity team.

“Everybody got a bunch of time,” said middle school girls coach P.J. Horne.

The middle school boys also won 6-0.

“We let everybody play a lot,” said middle school boys coach Ben Marion. “We let our starters sit for about half the game.”

The middle school Packers, who had not played in two weeks, were rusty at the outset, Marion said.

But Guillermo Torres and David Juarez each scored twice and Esequiel Vazquez and Daniel Gonzalez each added one goal.

Juarez played especially well, scoring twice from his sweeper position.

The middle school teams travel to play Cairo on Thursday.
