MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Lindsey Stapleton finished first in the girls race in the middle school cross country meet held Tuesday at Schley County.

Hudson May and Garrett May were the boys team’s top finishers.

Hudson was sixth with a 13:56 and Garrett was seventh with a 13:57.

Stapleton’s time was 16:38.

“Lindsey started where she left off for us,” Coach Link Whittaker said. “She paced herself and pulled in front late in the race.

“She never let the front runners get away from her.”

Kayla Webbe was sixth with an 18:32; Katie Russell was seventh with an 18;41; and Nikki Leddon was ninth with an 18:59.

Also running for the Colquitt County girls were Kristina Scott, 11th, 19:04; Searra Johnson, 13th, 20:02; Angel Strickland, 16th, 21:22; Vivian Larson, 18th, 21:29; Meg Robinson, 19th; 22:50; Courtney Terrell, 23:22; McKensie Willis, 24:04; Amber Boyd, 24:17; Clara Gene Vines, 24:17; Fielding Thomas, 24:22; and Kaci Waller, 24:30.

Alex Gomez was 12th for the boys team and was followed by Ryan Littleton, 13th, 16:30; Josh Smith, 16:32, 14th; Andrew Eunice, 17th, 17:31; and Eli Stripling, 21sh, 18:52.

The participating teams were Schley, Baconton, Parker, Americus and Colquitt County.

“I was pleased with the start of the team as a whole,” Whittaker said. “Nineteen of the 22 runners had never competed in a cross country race.

“Two miles can be daunting at this age. Hopefully, they are going to build on this good start.”

The middle schoolers will run at Lee County on Saturday.
