Kirkland, Well second in middle school diving

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s Elizabeth Ann Kirkland was second in the girls meet and Tristan Wells was second in the boys competition at the recent Wildcat Junior High Diving Invitational held at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta.

Gaffney Taylor won the girls competition with a 248.50. Kirkland was right behind with a 228.50.

Colquitt County’s Bethia Dawson was sixth in the 22-diver meet with a 158.90.

“I thought Elizabeth Ann dove great,” Coach Ed Goodman said. “She missed two dives but we’ll get that fixed. She’ll be fine.”

Harrison Moncino of Pace Academy won the boys competition wiht a 210.40. Wells, a sixth-grader at Willie J. Williams Middle School competing in his first meet, was just behind with a 195.50.

“I was real happy with his performance,” Goodman said. “He did a great job.

“We’ll try to catch Harrison in the next meet.”

The Colquitt County middle school divers will compete in the Junior High Swimming and Diving Championships on Dec. 12 at Marist School.
