MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s 5-2 loss to Houston County on Friday in Warner Robins could prove doubly harmful to the Packers playoff hopes.

While the Packers were managing just two hits and falling to 2-5 in the Region 1-AAAAA standings, the top four teams in the league took firmer grasps on potential playoff berths.

Tift County and Warner Robins won on Friday, with the Blue Devils victory creating a three-way tie for second place.

The Demons 5-2 victory over Valdosta dealt the Wildcats their first loss of the season

The Wildcats are now 6-1 and still in first place with Coffee, Tift County and Warner Robins all at 4-3.

The bottom three teams in the region are Houston County, 2-4; Colquitt County, 2-5; and Lowndes, 1-4.

Lowndes will travel to meet Houston County today at 1 p.m. to make up a game rained out last week.

The Packers will have to try to get back into the region race at home on Tuesday when they face Valdosta at 6 p.m. at Ike Aultman Field at Packer Park.

Colquitt will have to hit and pitch better on Tuesday.

“That was not a good way to start the second half,” Coach Eric McCranie said.

The Packers had defeated Americus-Sumter County 6-1 on Monday and Dougherty 15-3 on Wednesday, but managed just a pair of base hits by William Oliver and Hayden Kudela.

Andrew McDowell started on the mound and pitched five innings, giving up four earned runs on five hits and eight walks.

“We’ve got to start winning some games,” McCranie said.

The Packers will meet Bartram Trail High from St. Johns, Fla., at 11 a.m. today at Packer Park.
