JV baseball team splits doubleheader

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County junior varsity baseball team won its fifth game in a row on Thursday, defeating Valdosta 15-4 in the first game of a doubleheader.

The JV Packers dropped the second game 6-3.

In the first game, the Packers had 14 hits, with Scotty Green leading the way with three.

Russ DeMott, Davis Durham, Payne Newsome and Ryan Ward each had two and Judd Cato, Mark Lindsey and McClellan Mobley each had one.

Lindsey’s hit was a three-run double.

DeMott went the distance to get the win, striking out six.

“Russ pitched a great ball game,” said Coach Greg Tillery. “He was hitting his spots.”

Valdosta jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead in the second game and the Packers could not catch up.

Green, Lindsey, Durham nad Blake Stamps had hits in the second game. Zac Goodno did the pitching.

The JV Packers are now 8-3 on the season and will play host to Thomas County Central at 5 p.m. Monday at Ike Aultman Field at Packer Park.
