MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County High baseball team will travel to Cordele today to meet Crisp County carrying a two-game winning streak.
And the victories could not be more different.
Last Thursday, the Packers fell behind 4-0 in the first inning before rallying to beat Americus-Sumter County 6-5.
Back at Ike Aultman Field at Packer Park again on Monday, the Packers broke open a 1-1 game with five runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and four more with just one out in the sixth for a 12-2, mercy-rule victory over Dougherty.
The Trojans were 3-0, but the Packers raked three of their pitchers for 15 hits, including three each by Patrick Taylor and freshman Cole Pitts.
John Michael Harrison contributed a pair of triples and Jebb Cato and Bo Williams each had two hits.
Andrew McDowell, William Oliver and Hayden Kudela had the other hits.
Cato’s hits were both doubles. Kudela also had a double and Williams’ single in the bottom of the sixth drove in Cato with the 12th run.
Dougherty led 1-0 on single by Felton Walls in the top of the third, an inning that Harrison, the Packers starter, did not survive.
Corey Hancock got the final out in the second and pitched the next 2 2/3, giving up one unearned run before Kudela came on to get the final out of the game.
Hancock got the win.
The Trojans managed just three hits and both of their runs were unearned.
Colquitt tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third when Kudela, who had reached on an error, rode home on Harrison’s two-out triple.
The Packers broke it open in the fourth scoring five times on five hits. A single by Pitts, a double by Cato, a single by Oliver and walk by Williams opened the inning.
Taylor drove in two in the inning with a single. Blake Cato, Oliver and Harrison drove in the others.
A two-run single by Williams in the fifth made it 8-1.
