MOULTRIE — Benjamin Larry Lewis Sr., 72, of Moultrie, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Phoebe Putney Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Barrett officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Church Cemetery with Chris Harper, Tommy Harper, Mark Lewis, Ron Lewis, Alvis Benton and Thomas Williams serving as pallbearers.
Born Oct. 9, 1936, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Lewis and Hildred Lightfoot Lewis. He retired as a supervisor with Merck Chemical and was a member of the Methodist faith.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Lamar Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Alma Benton Lewis of Moultrie; son, Ben Lewis Jr. and wife Penny of Valdosta, Ga.; daughters, Renee Lewis Furr of Panama City, Fla., and Marsha Temples of Aiken, S.C.; sisters, Rosilyn Anne L. Foster and husband Delbert T. of Moultrie and Linda Lewis Duke and husband Robert of Albany, Ga.; sister-in-law, Judi Lewis of Arabi, Ga.; six grandchildren, Thomas Lewis Furr, Ivey Jane Lewis, Kirby Holmes Gay and husband Andy, Tyler R. Holmes, Grant Hunt and Douglas Temples; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be today, Sept. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m.
