MOULTRIE — Colquitt County High School announces that Junior Jack Kirksey will to participate in the 2025 Georgia Governor’s Honors Program. It is one of the most prestigious academic summer programs in the state.
The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a four-week residential summer experience. It is for rising juniors and seniors who demonstrate exceptional ability and interest in a specific area of study. This year’s program will take place June 15 through July 12, on the campus of Georgia Southern University.
The honors program chose Kirksey for his outstanding talent in Communicative Arts. As a result, he emerged from a highly competitive pool of applicants from across the state. More than 1,500 students had final interviews, however, only 600 got into the program. To earn a place, students went through a rigorous application and interview process. During this process, they demonstrated both knowledge and passion in their chosen field.
“I am thrilled to be able to participate in an environment filled with Georgia’s best and brightest. The opportunity to pursue my aptitudes and interests amongst other students who are academically motivated and share a similar passion for learning is extremely exciting. Hopefully, this experience can give me insight into my future goals and aspirations as I enter my senior year and college decisions,” said Kirksey.
The Georgia Governor’s Honors Program provides students with in-depth academic instruction during the day. A variety of social and learning activities in the evenings, then, complement the instruction. The program’s design will enrich students beyond the traditional classroom setting. So, the program creates a community of Georgia’s most gifted and driven learners. The State of Georgia fully funds the program, including meals and housing.
“Jack is the embodiment of what it means to be a Packer—driven, respectful, and committed to excellence,” said Chris Merritt, principal of Colquitt County High School. “As an 11th-grade student enrolled in the most rigorous coursework available, he leads not only with intellect but with integrity and character. His selection for the Georgia Governor’s Honors Program is a testament to his hard work and high standards. Jack exemplifies the purpose of GHP by embracing the academic, cultural, and social enrichment needed to become a global thinker, innovator, and leader of tomorrow. We are proud to have him represent Colquitt County High School on such a distinguished platform.”
Kirksey joins peers from across Georgia, where he will have the opportunity to sharpen his skills in Communicative Arts. He will learn under the guidance of expert educators and alongside students who share his passion for creative expression.
