Colquitt shoots 613, prepares
to host Area tournament

MOULTRIE – In its final tuneup before the Area 1 tournament, the Colquitt County boys golf team shot a two-day 613 in the Trojan Invitational in Carrollton.
The Area tournament will be held on Monday at Sunset Country Club, with teams teeing off at 8 a.m.
The Area champion and runner-up will receive automatic bids to the state tournament, which will be held May 19-20 at Valdosta’s Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
The Nos. 3 and 4 teams will advance to the Sectional to be held May 5-6 at the Fairfield Plantation Golf Course
in Villa Rica.
Also, the lowest scoring individual player not on a qualifying team on Monday will advance to the state tournament.
Expected in the Area 1 tournament are Camden County, Campbell, Colquitt County, Harrison, Hillgrove, Lowndes, Paulding County, Richmond Hill, Tift County and Valdosta.
McEachern will send one individual player.
Area 1 schools Osborn, Pebblebrook and South Cobb will not send teams.
Colquitt County will be looking forward to playing on its home course on Monday.
The Packers shot a 301 at Sunset in the March 29 Packer Invitational.
Colquitt’s 613 at Carrollton’s Sunset Hills Country Club last weekend came against one of the toughest fields the team has faced this season, Packers coach Andrew Eunice said.
Milton turned in a 3-over par 581 to finish first, five strokes better than the 586 shot by tournament-host Carrollton.
Columbus was third with a 600 and was followed by North Paulding, fourth, 608; Cherokee, fifth, 609; Lake Oconee Academy, sixth, 612.
The Packers, at 613, were followed by Etowah, 627; Carrollton, No. 2, 631; North Gwinnett, 633; Westminster, 644; and Cambridge, 653.
Carrollton, North Paulding, Etowah and North Gwinnett have already qualified for either the state or sectional tournament.
Led by Michael Hall’s 69, the Packers shot a 303 on Friday.
The Packers also counted Jacob Rowell’s 75, Reese Hood’s 79 and the 80 shot by both Cavin Hall and Peyton Collins.
On Saturday, each of the Hall brothers shot a 77.
Rowell and Reese Hood each had a 78.
Michael Hall’s 6-over par 146 led the Packers over the two days of the tournament.
Rowell had a 153 and Hood and Cavin Hall each shot 157.
