MOULTRIE — United Way of Colquitt County has put out a plea on its Facebook page on behalf of the Colquitt County Food Bank for donations of food.

“The shelves at our Colquitt County Food Bank are bare! We’ve never seen supplies this low, and the need is growing every single day. Some days, our food bank fills up to 90 orders for neighbors in need,” said the United Way’s statement. “We’re calling on our amazing community — because when the need is great, so is our heart. Every single donation helps a family right here at home!’

According to the post, things that are most needed at the food bank are canned goods, pasta and rice, cereal, shelf-stable milk and other non-perishable items.

The donations can be dropped off at the food bank, located at 309 Third St. S.E., between the hours of 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday. They can also be dropped off at the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce, located at 116 First Ave. S.E., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

“The Colquitt County Food Bank is a partner agency with Second Harvest of South GA. With this partnership, we can purchase food items in bulk direct for about $0.19 per pound,” states the food bank’s website.
