MOULTRIE — A new initiative is making laundry day a little more literate in Colquitt County. The “Loads of Literacy” campaign, launched in the Spring of 2025, brings books to local laundromats to encourage reading for all ages.
The University of Georgia Colquitt County Archway Partnership Youth Development Work Group is sponsoring this collaborative project.
The Colquitt County School District has donated books and baskets for placement in laundry locations throughout the county. The books cater to a wide range of readers, including children, young adults, and adults, and also feature bilingual selections. The program encourages patrons to “Wash, Read, Repeat” and invites visitors to read while they wait on their laundry, take a book home, or bring a book to trade out.
Community members can support the “Loads of Literacy” campaign by contributing to the Amazon wishlist sponsored by the Moultrie Colquitt County Library at https://a.co/gh9wI45.
