MOULTRIE — Southern Regional Technical College and the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the successful launch of SRTC’s Barbering program on the Moultrie campus March 25.

Initially formed in partnership with Colquitt County High School, the Barbering program at SRTC has quickly established itself as a premier training ground for future professionals in the field, the chamber said. The four-semester certificate program prepares students for diverse careers in barbering through comprehensive, hands-on training.

“We were thrilled with the enthusiastic response to our Barbering program,” said SRTC President Jim Glass. “This ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated not only our upgraded facilities but also the exciting career opportunities we’re creating for our students in Southwest Georgia.”

The curriculum provides students with specialized training in safety, sanitation, hair treatments and manipulations, haircutting techniques, shaving, skincare, reception, sales, and management. Designed to meet the state licensing requirements of the Georgia State Board of Barbering, the program equips graduates with the skills to work as barbers, salon/shop managers, or salon/shop owners.

The ribbon cutting ceremony took place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Barber Shop in Building B on SRTC’s Moultrie campus. Community members, local business leaders, current and prospective students attended the event.

Attendees enjoyed a delicious array of refreshments catered by About Thyme of Moultrie. The celebration was further enhanced by custom-decorated cookies handcrafted specifically for the occasion by SRTC employee Jennifer Simpson.
