Edwards named the
District’s Chief Academic Officer

- Dr. Allen Edwards will be the Colquitt County School District's Chief Academic Officer.
MOULTRIE – Dr. Allen Edwards has been named the Chief Academic Officer for Colquitt County School District.
Edwards has a wealth of leadership experience and brings a commitment to academic excellence. He also has a strong vision for the future of the district’s educational programs and student achievement.
He is the coordinator for the G.E.A.R Gifted Center, leading the district’s gifted education program since 2015. Edwards also served as the director of English Language Arts Curriculum and Secondary Curriculum. He began his career as a secondary English Language Arts teacher. He served 12 years in the classroom where he taught all curriculum levels, including advanced placement.
“From the Sunset Elementary playground to Mack Tharpe Stadium and Withers Auditorium, my life was shaped by Colquitt County educators. I am proud of the gains we have seen over the last few years, especially in literacy, and am honored and humbled to help lead the academic charge for my hometown,” said Edwards. “Our goal is to produce good citizens who are not just prepared for a career or college but are ready to become the next generation of leaders our community will need to keep the future of our county as bright as it is now.”
Edwards has a bachelor of science degree in English education and a master of arts degree in language education from the University of Georgia. He received his doctorate of education in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
“We are confident that Dr. Edwards will lead our efforts to ensure that every student receives the highest quality education possible, focusing on curriculum, instruction, and overall academic growth,” said Superintendent Dan Chappuis. “He will also work closely with our educators, staff, and families to foster a collaborative culture focusing on learning and student success. We look forward to the positive impact he will have on our district and the future of our students.”
Edwards will begin his new role on May 1. He will continue to oversee the G.E.A.R. Gifted Center until a replacement is named. Colquitt County School District serves more than 8,500 students across thirteen schools and three programs. The district employs just over 1,400 certified and classified staff members.
