MOULTRIE – Jacob Rowell was 5-over par after five holes on Saturday in the Parkview Invitational at Stone Mountain Golf Club.
But the Colquitt County sophomore battled back through winds that gusted up to 20 mph to help lead the Packers to a second-place finish.
Rowell’s 77 was Colquitt County’s low score as the Packers shot a 318 to finish behind Lakeside-Evans, who shot a 306.
The Packers also counted a 78 from freshman Cavin Hall, an 80 from Reese Hood and an 83 from Leighton Hood.
Brayden Nolan and Peyton Collins also played for the Packers.
Rowell, who finished fourth, and Hall, who was sixth, were named to the All-Tournament team.
Packers coach Andrew Eunice was especially pleased with Rowell’s performance.
“It was the first all-tournament team of his career, but there will be many more to come,” Eunice said.
Hall, one of the state’s top freshman players, finished in the top 10 for the fourth-straight time.
Freshman Sam Rogers of Lakeside-Evans finished first with a 74.
Bennett Wiggins, also of Lakeside-Evans was second with a 75.
Fredrik Donohue of Riverwood was third with a 76.
Eunice said the windy conditions made a “tough course even tougher.”
Walton was third with a 322 and was followed by Wesleyan, 328; Riverwood, 334; Buford, 338; Marietta, 343; tournament-host Parkview, 350; Brookwood, 351; and Oconee County, 368.
The Packers will travel to Tifton on Monday to compete in the Blue Devil Invitational at Spring Hill Country Club.
The Packer Invitational is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, at Sunset Country Club.
“We’ve got a great core,” Eunice said of underclassmen-dominated team. “All these guys love playing with each other.”
