Colquitt soccer sweeps Cairo,
but faces challenging week

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County varsity soccer teams took care of their non-Region 1-6A business on Friday, but both face a pair of crucial region matches next week.
The Lady Packers won their third straight game on Friday, edging visiting Cairo 2-1 at Packer Park.
They will take a 5-5 overall record and 3-2 region mark into home games against Lowndes on Tuesday and Richmond Hill on Friday.
The Colquitt County boys defeated the Syrupmakers on Friday, also by a 2-1 score.
The Packers are now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the region heading into the matches against the Vikings and Wildcats.
Colquitt’s boys have won three straight since their lone region loss, a 5-2 decision at Richmond Hill on the last day in February.
The Packers are undoubtedly looking forward to their rematch with the region-leading Wildcats, which will be held on the Packer Park pitch.
The Richmond Hill boys are 9-1 overall and ranked No. 3 in all classifications in Georgia by MaxPreps.
The Wildcats are 6-0 in the region, where they are outscoring their opponents 33-6.
The Packers are tied for second in the region with Camden County, with both squads boasting 4-1 records.
Tuesday’s meeting with Lowndes will be the first of two between the two longtime region opponents.
The Vikings are 6-5 overall and are in third place in the region with a 2-2 record.
The Tift County and Valdosta boys teams are both 0-6 in the region.
The Colquitt County girls will have a chance to put some separation between themselves and Lowndes on Tuesday.
The Vikettes are 2-2 and right behind the third-place Lady Packers. The Lowndes girls are 7-4 overall.
Richmond Hill will bring one of the state’s top girls teams to Packer Park on Friday.
The Lady Wildcats are 5-0 in the region and have outscored those five opponents by a combined 32-0.
Among their wins was a 9-0 victory over the Colquitt girls.
They are 9-1 overall and have outscored those opponents by a combined 48-6.
Heading into next week’s schedule, Richmond Hill’s girls are No. 1 in the region with their 5-0 record.
The Lady Cats are followed by Camden County, 3-1; Colquitt County, 3-2; Lowndes, 2-2; Tift County, 1-4; and Valdosta 0-5.
