Conservation District accepting poster and essay contest entries

TIFTON – The Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District is a local agency dedicated to the conservation and stewardship of the area’s natural resources. The agency is now accepting entries for its Poster and Essay Contests for students located within its service area. The service area includes Colquitt County.

The service area also includes Ben Hill, Brooks, Crisp, Irwin, Thomas, Tift, Turner and Worth counties.

The poster contest provides public, private and homeschooled students in 2nd and 3rd grades the chance to have their art selected to advance on to the state contest.

The essay contest provides public, private and homeschooled students in 12th grade the chance to let their writing skills shine.

Each year, the poster and essay contest’s topic reflects the National Association of Conservation District’s annual Stewardship theme. It highlights the work of Conservation Districts to protect and enhance natural resources. This year’s theme, “Home is Where the Habitat is,” highlights the essential role that both natural and managed habitats play in supporting biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance.

The Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District is a unit of state government that directs natural resource management programs. Therefore, it works with farmers, landowners, and with other units of government. Its educates and actively promotes programs and practices that support the conservation.
