Middle school tennis teams
win three of first four matches

TIFTON – The Colquitt County middle school tennis teams opened their seasons on Tuesday, February 18, by winning three of four matches in Tifton.
The boys team defeated Coffee and Tift County while the girls won over Tift, but fell to Coffee in the tri-county match.
The middle school Packers, under the direction of first-year coach Trey Perkins, opened with a 4-1 win over the Trojans.
At No. 1 singles, eighth-grader Isaac Hart won 6-2, 6-2.
Tripp Kimbrell, also an eighth-grader, lost 3-6, 2-6 at No. 2 singles.
Seventh-grader Cade Calhoun played No. 3 singles and won 6-2, 6-3.
The No. 1 doubles team of eighth-grader Maddox Simmons and seventh-grader Parks Sewell won 6-2, 6-4.
Playing No. 2 doubles, seventh-graders Jaidon Howell and Fletcher Krout won by no contest.
The middle school Packers defeated Tift County 3-2.
Hart won at No. 1 singles in the longest match of the day, winning two tie-breaks and outlasting a strong Kai Folds 2-7, 7-5, 10-3.
Kimbrell lost at No. 2 singles 2-6, 2-6 and Calhoun won at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3.
At No. 1 doubles, Simmons and Sewell lost in three sets 5-7, 7-5, 8-10 in a hard-fought match.
Howell and Krout won at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-3.
The middle school girls team is led by third-year coach Justin Stewart.
The Lady Packers fell 0-5 to Coffee in their first match.
At No.1 singles, seventh-grader Scarlett Allegood lost 3-6, 5-7.
Sadie Laurel Cato, a sixth-grader playing No. 2 singles, lost 3-6, 2-6.
At No. 3 singles, seventh-grader Libba Dykes, fell 3-6, 3-6.
The No. 1 doubles team of eighth-grader Allie Cannon and seventh-grader Cora Calhoun lost 4-6, 3-6.
Eighth-graders Emily Holmes and Blair Justice lost 3-6, 2-6 at No. 2 doubles.
The middle school girls defeated Tift County 4-1.
Allegood won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-4.
Cato also won in two sets at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
And Dykes completed the singles sweep, winning 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3.
Cannon and Calhoun fell at No. 1 doubles, 3-6, 6-7(8-10).
Holmes and Justice won at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 7-6(8-6)
