MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County B and C baseball teams opened their seasons with a sweep of Cairo on Tuesday at Packer Park.
The B-team, made up primarily of juniors and sophomores, scored in each of the first three inning and went on to an 8-5 win.
The Packers had eight hits, including two each from Davis Wingate and James Horne. One of Horne’s hit was a double and he drove in two runs.
Carter Summerlin had a triple and Jaxon Dorminey, Wesley Hall and Tyson Samples added singles.
Carter Penuel started on the mound and pitched the first two innings, giving up a hit and a walk and striking out one.
Jackson Edwards pitched one inning and Wingate went 2.1 innings.
Judson Taylor pitched the final two innings and did not give up a run or a hit. He walked two and struck out two.
The junior varsity C team, primarily ninth-graders, scored eight runs in the first inning and cruised to a 14-4 victory over Cairo.
The Syrupmakers scored all of their runs in the third inning.
Bradley Bryan, Briar Littleton and Brey Sands each had two hits for the Packers.
Jaxson Dorminy, Cohen Lawson and Tripp Bridges each had one hit.
Dorminey, Bryan and Sands had doubles.
Bryan drove in four runs. Sands had three RBIs.
Dorminey went the first 1.2 innings on the mound, giving up two hits and walking one, but not allowing a run. He struck out three.
Avery went the next 1.1 inning and gave up four runs, only three of which were earned. He also struck out three Syrupmakers.
Carson Taylor pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run or a hit while walking two and striking out two.
The B team is scheduled to travel to Cairo on Monday, February 17.
Both teams will be back at Packer Park on Wednesday, February 19, to meet Bainbridge.
The Colquitt County middle school C team raised its record to 5-0 with a 14-1 five-inning win over Cairo on Tuesday at Packer Park.
The Packers scored 10 runs in the first inning and Liam Posey and Mason Adcock combined to allow just one unearned run and two hits.
Adcock struck out seven batters over the final three innings.
Clark Deloach and Wade Sullivan each had two hits for the Packers.
Posey, Ayden Martinez, Joseph Baker, Ty Roberts, Jerren Harrell, Lane Hutto and Braston Wilson each had one hit.
Sullivan, Baker and Hutto had doubles.
The B team managed just one hit in its 14-0 loss to Cairo.
Jerren Harrell had Colquitt County’s lone hit as the B-teamers fell to 3-2.
The middle school B- and C- teams will travel to Worth County on Thursday.
The eighth-grade A-team lost 10-4 at Hahira on Tuesday.
The Packers pounded out 10 hits, including three by Gage Griffin
Noah Burkett had a double and Jackson Lasseter, Jaden Chambers, Drake Saunders, Cole Stanford, Jaxon Rowell and Parker Bennett each had one hit.
Chambers and Burkett did the pitching for the A-team, which falls to 2-3.
The A-team will play host to Lowndes at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 13, at Packer Park.
