MOULTRIE — City of Moultrie offices will close at 4 p.m. today and remain closed all day Wednesday, the city said in a statement sent to The Observer just before 1 p.m. As of that time, the tentative plan is for employees to return to work at noon on Thursday.

“On Wednesday and tentatively Thursday, there will be no solid waste pick-up,” the statement said. “Please leave your rollout carts by your homes. We will update you when our plans are more concrete, but right now, the tentative plan is to pick up solid waste on Friday and Saturday.”

A warming shelter is being opened in the breakroom at the Public Works Service Center. The Red Cross will provide 15 cots, and the United Way will provide blankets. If you know of anyone within the city who needs a ride, please contact 911. The Service Center is located at 1108 First St. N.E.

The city is forecast to get 3-4 inches of snowfall, the statement said. Please continue to monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel, especially on icy roads. The City of Moultrie’s Public Works Department began putting sand on non-GDOT bridges this morning. If you must go out, drive with extra caution, particularly on bridges and culverts, as these areas can become slippery faster.
