The JV won their sets 25-23, 25-17.

Jaida Gachuz started the JV Lady Packers off with an ace for the initial serve of the first set.

Also serving aces on the JV roster were Carli Brown, Madison Lane, Dimaree Smith, Caitlyn McNeil and Taraji Green.

In fact, Green’s single ace serve during the second set was the final point needed to win the match.

The Lady Packers took a substantial lead during the second set when Lane had a serving streak of five, immediately followed by Smith’s streak of four, and from there they were able to maintain the lead for an easy victory.

The first set was a tighter battle however as it remained within a three-point margin the entire 25 points.

During their fight for that first set point, Smith had a serving streak of five, with four of them being ace serves with a touch.

Additionally, Lane, Smith and Brown all had phenomenal digs to keep the ball in play.

At the end of the first, when the score was tied 23-23, the Lady Packers stepped up and had two perfectly executed bump-set-spike plays that resulted in the remaining two points needed to complete the set.

Nora Avera and Sadie Saunders were the two hitters to receive those final sets from Gachuz.

After the JV team celebrated their victory, it was time for the varsity team to take the court. They won their sets 25-11, 26-24.

The first set went quickly for the Lady Packers.

Wynn Kinsey started the first set with a service streak of eight with only two of them being aces.

Those other initial six points were hard fought for with a combination of blocks from Reese Webb and Jessie Eunice, spikes from Eunice and Kate Summerlin and a tip from Webb.

Georgia Christian wasn’t able to recover from the 7-0 score and the Lady Packers maintained a comfortable lead until the second set.

“We started getting careless and gave up a lot of points on errors,” said varsity head coach Jess Patel. “You want the errors to be around 8-9, and we had about 13 or 14.”

Throughout the remainder of the match, Olivia Davis, Webb, Jessie Eunice and Kinsey all had ace serves.

Jaina Turner and Nyasia Harper had several successful blocks, and Claire Slocumb had a tremendous run down after the initial bump went haywire.

Before long, the score of the second set was 24-20, advantage Georgia Christian.

“I told them to prove to me and to themselves that they would get themselves out of this mess,” said Patel. “I’m very proud of them.”

Those final six consecutive points the Lady Packers needed were fought hard for.

Two of these final points came on errors from Georgia Christian, and two were from successfully executed plays where both Harper and Summerlin spiked the ball straight to the floor.

Webb is the Lady Packer who ended the service rotation and finished the match with two ace serves.

“It takes a lot to come back from 20-24,” said Patel. “No one wants to lose, so it’s about who wants to win more and this is a very driven team.”

The Lady Packers will next play Cook High on Thursday at the Colquitt County High School Gym. The first match will begin at 5 p.m.
