Lady Packers basketball breezes through round one of the ‘Girl Power’ Classic

MOULTRIE — Players from both teams chuckled when the basketball got wedged in the rim on one of Amira Walters-Smith’s 3-point shot attempts during Thursday’s game against Macon County in round one of the Lee County “Girl Power” Classic.
According to Dunk or Three, this only occurs in roughly 2% of basketball games, giving this game a unique experience.
The Lady Packers defeated the Bulldogs 63-37, giving them their seventh win in a row this season.
During the game against Macon, Walters-Smith did successfully shoot several 3-point baskets, and was the highest scorer for the Lady Packer with 16.
One of Walters-Smith’s 3-pointers was made during the final seconds before halftime when she threw a hail Mary shot from almost mid-court.
The game paused for halftime 34-13, advantage Lady Packers.
On fire defensively were D’Zeriyah Polite, who had four steals, and Ameris Johnson, who had six rebounds.
Nacardia Robinson also contributed one block during the match and with four assists was Aubrey Edge. Also scoring points throughout the match were: Polite, Johnson, Amareyia Knighton and Robinson.
The Lady Packers will be moving on to compete for the championship of the black bracket in the tournament, which will be played Friday at 6 p.m.
They will be competing for the win against Veterans, which won its round one game against Dougherty 79-44.
