MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girls basketball team, which had lost twice to Camden County in the regular season, defeated the Lady Wildcats 51-40 on Tuesday at Lowndes in one of the two Region 1-7A tournament semifinal games.

The Lady Packers, now 22-4 overall and the No. 3 seed, will meet Lowndes at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Lowndes in the region tournament championship game.

Tuesday’s victory also ensures that the Lady Packers will finish no lower than second in the the region and will play host to a Class 7A state tournament game on the William Bryant Court on either Feb. 20 or 21.

A Thursday win over the Vikettes would give the Colquitt County girls basketball program its first region championship since 2019.

The Lowndes girls, the regular-season region champion with a 7-1 record, advanced to tournament championship game with a 49-39 victory over Richmond Hill on Tuesday.

The region tournament winner will play the No. 4 team from Region 4 in the first round of the state tournament.

Thursday’s losing team will play host to Region 4’s No. 3 team.

Colquitt and Lowndes split their two regular-season meetings.

The Vikettes won at home 74-49 with three players scoring in double digits: Aryana Thomas had 19, Kimora Wade had 17 and Kaci Demps had 15.

The Lady Packers also had three in double figures with Amira Walters-Smith hitting for 14, Jamya Moore adding 12 and Amareyia Knighton adding 11.

But Lowndes dominated on the boards, out-rebounding the Lady Packers 38-24.

The game in Moultrie on Feb. 3, was tied at the half, but the Lady Packers outscored the visitors by 10 in the final 16 minutes to take a 58-48 win and deal the Vikettes their only region loss of the season.

Amareyia Knight led all scorers with 22 points in the game and Walters-Smith added 19.

Only Wade scored in double-digits for the Vikettes and the Lowndes girls were unable to control the boards, with the Lady Packers winning the rebounding battle 28-27.

The Vikettes are 18-4.

Walters-Smith leads the Lady Packers in scoring, averaging 17.6 points a game.

Knighton is averaging 13.4 points.

Ameris Johnson lead the Colquitt County girls with 5.8 rebounds a game.
