Lady Packers fall short against Fitzgerald

MOULTRIE — After a two-goal deficit, the Lady Packers were able to tie their game against Fitzgerald in the last 10 minutes before halftime.

During the second half, the Lady Packers continued to fight hard, but they came up just short and lost by one goal.

The final score was 4-3.

Before the Lady Packers were able to get on the scoreboard, Fitzgerald already scored two goals.

However, though some shots got past all 11 of the Lady Packer players, goalkeeper Rylee Tillery had a total of 12 saves throughout the game.

With 10 minutes on the timer, Mollie Hewett received a cross shot and faked out the goalie to get one past her.

Eight minutes later, Krystal Guerrero made a long pass to Jennifer Cano for the Lady Packers second goal.

The game went into halftime 2-2.

During the second half, Fitzgerald again scored first; however, the Lady Packers tied the score again at 3-3 with 22 minutes left in the game.

Greer Turnipseed sent a forward pass to Hewett, who then sent a long cross shot to Cano to make the goal.

Marley Ocampo, who substituted with Tillery as goalkeeper midway through the second half, had one save.

Defensively, clears were made by the following players: Ellis Turnipseed, Lyndsey Luttrell, Chelsea Moreno, Eidi Gachuz, Vanessa Torres and Hewett.

At one point, Ellis Turnipseed used her body to block a shot attempt.

The Lady Packers will travel to Cairo on Monday for their next match.

The first region match will be against Lowndes at Packer Park, Friday, Feb. 23. The Lady Packer match begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Packers playing directly afterward.
