Packer tennis comes up short during first region match of the season

MOULTRIE — During their first region game of the season, both the Packers and Lady Packers varsity tennis teams lost against Richmond Hill.

Both teams are now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in region play.

The Packers final score was 4-1 and the Lady Packers lost 3-2.

Bailee Fountain was the sole Packer to win his match. With the initial sets split 6-3; 6-7, Fountain won the third set 6-4.

Also going into a tiebreaker was the Packers double team of Jack Taunton and Ty Hurst; however they weren’t able to take the lead during that final set. Their scores were: 6-4; 3-6; 4-6.

Doubles team of Daniel Basilio and Jared Rodriguez lost 0-6; 0-6.

Joshua Scroggins lost 2-6; 3-6 while Parker Anderson lost 1-6; 2-6.

When the Lady Packers played, they won in two of their singles matches.

Ada Craft lost the first set 3-6, but won the second set 6-4 and took the tiebreaker 6-4.

With final set scores of 6-1; 6-4, Emily Lampman, in number three singles, was the other Lady Packer to win her match.

Carolyne Turner lost her sets 1-6; 3-6.

Both doubles teams also lost their matches.

Julia Costin and Laura Gonzales lost 2-6; 5-7.

Coming up short in their tiebreaker game was the doubles team of Jayley Johnson and Candace Moses.

Variety tennis will next play Deerfield Windsor at Packer Park on Monday. The matches begin at 4 p.m.
