AAA Pack tops Thomasville for sixth consecutive win

MOULTRIE — Down 3-1 after the first inning, the Colquitt County AAA baseball team got shutout pitching from Jesus Vazquez and James Horne the rest of the way to get a 6-3 road victory over the Thomasville junior varsity on Wednesday.

The victory was the sixth in a row for the AAA Packers, who raised their record to 7-3.

A AAA/AA doubleheader against Lincoln High of Tallahassee originally scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Packer Park has been called off.

Vazquez gave up all three runs, but settled down and pitched shutout baseball over the next three innings.

Horne faced just four batters and blanked the Bulldogs in the fifth and final inning.

Horne also chipped in a double in the Packers 10-hit offensive attack.

Rylan Howell and Davis Lightsey each had a double and a single; Carter Penuel had two singles; Kane Morris added a double; and Carter Summerlin and Tyson Samples each had a single.

Howell, Lightsey, Penuel, Horne, Luke Strong and Ethan Allegood had RBIs. The Colquitt County AA team dropped the other game of the doubleheader with Thomasville, losing 11-0 in four innings and falling to 0-8-2 on the season.

Ovidio Ibarra had a double and Horne and Strong contributed singles.
