Middle school girls first, boys second in conference track meet

The Colquitt County middle school track teams hoist their trophies following the recent conference meet in Valdosta.

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school track team showcased its talent at the Big 5 Conference championship meet held March 21, at Valdosta High School with the girls taking first place and boys finishing as the runners-up.

The girls team, which had finished as the conference runner-up the last two seasons, claimed the title this year with 146 points.

The boys team had 97 points.

Several members of the track teams set records in these events:

• Girls 100-meter hurdles: Ty’Yona Revels set a new record with a time of 15.47 seconds.

• Girls 800-meter run: Lydia Allegood ran an immaculate time of 2:48.57 seconds.

• Girls 4×100-meter relay team of Makayla Williams, Maleah Carr, Addison Wiley and Chelsey Bonner clocked an impressive 51.65 seconds.

• Boys 4×400-meter relay team of Trotter Tomlinson, Lee’Narien Jones, Gavin Henderson and Kendall Covin ran a superb time of 3:54.17.

• Boys 400-meter dash: Kendall Covin excelled with a time of 54.79 seconds.

• Boys high jump: Gavin Henderson soared to a height of 5-10.

Boys discus: Ty’Vhyr Young threw an impressive 132-0.

• Girls 200-meter dash: Maleah Carr, 2nd (27.21); Makayla Williams, 4th (27.45).

• Girls 1600-meter run: Judith Moctezuma, 5th (6:48.38); Marley Kelley, 6th (6:54.15); Lydia Allegood, 8th (7:05.96).

• Girls 800-meter run: Lydia Allegood, 3rd (2:48.57); Judith Moctezuma, 4th (2:49.41); Belen Romulo, 2:56.62

The middle school track team’s head coach is Kim Taylor. Her assistants are Stephanie Abrams, Hillary Williams and Kiel Pollard.
