- Kevin Ellis is approaching three years as the director of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System and says that he’s loved every minute of it.
he Moultrie-Colquitt County Library is located at 204 5th St., SE. The hours of operation for the main library are from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
In 1988, the Ellen Payne Odom Genealogy Library opened its doors in that same location. The genealogy library hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The library, an approved AAA attraction, offers a collection of genealogical, ethnic, and historical information for professional and amateur researchers. Staff members are available to help researchers.
The Doerun Municipal Library is located at 185 N. Freeman St., Doerun, GA. Its hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The main library also houses a Children’s Library under the direction of Mrs. Erin Honeycutt. Summer reading programs for children and teens are held during June and July. A multitude of reading activities is available all year round. Baby Bees for young children ages 0 – 2 and Preschool Storytimes for toddlers ages 2 — 5 are particular favorites. Special activities for all groups are available throughout the month.
Regular activities for adults are also available and there are additional special events and programs for the community throughout the year.
The Moultrie-Colquitt County Library System’s collection contains more than 120,000 books, magazines, audiobooks, laptops/Chromebooks, and DVDs available for checkout. As a member of the PINES system, patrons can borrow titles from over 300 libraries through the interlibrary loan program. Modern multimedia computers and wireless Internet access are also available. Ebooks, emagazines, and audiobooks can be checked out online with a current PINES library card.
