Visit Colquitt County – Museum of Colquitt County History

Hometown Hero Jack Bridwell stands in the middle of the Museum of Colquitt County History, which he has been at almost every day since its doors opened in 1999.

The Museum of Colquitt County History was founded in 1998. It is located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Fifth Street Southeast. The museum is open on Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. -5 p.m. and on Sundays from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Admission is free. Tours are also available by appointment during the week.

Fred Cook currently serves as president and Jack Bridwell is the executive director.

Permanent displays include Norman College Keepsakes; the Early History Room, which includes Native American artifacts and a dugout canoe; the County Pioneer Room with many artifacts from local families; and The War Between the States Room, which holds a plaque engraved with the names of Colquitt Countians who died in that conflict. Additionally there are rooms highlighting, the arrival of the railroads, the early 1900s, local military veterans, the schools around the county, and the farming heritage and the pivotal role of the pine forest that at one time covered the county. Additionally there are several new exhibits, one being a 1928 Chevrolet from the Duggan family.

The museum also hosts many activities throughout the year such as a veterans celebration each summer and provides a meeting location for member organizations.
