Packers basketball halfway through region play

MOULTRIE — After their recent weekend games against Camden County and Richmond Hill, the Colquitt County basketball teams are now halfway through region play.
The Lady Packers are currently sitting in third standing with a record of 2-2. They are 15-3 overall.
Losing against Camden County 74-48, the Lady Packers beat Richmond Hill 39-29.
With an overall record of 3-13, the Packers are 0-4 in region place with a fifth place standing.
Only the top four teams in the region will advance to the state playoffs.
In the game against Camden County the Packers lost 60-42; however, they only lost by one basket in the match against Richmond Hill, with a final score of 48-46.
In the final quarter of the Packers’ match, the game was a back-and-forth battle to control the lead.
With 10 seconds left on the clock, and Richmond Hill ahead by one, a double technical foul was called directly following a personal foul against Richmond Hill and both team got the opportunity for free throws.
Even with Cason Harden sinking both of his free throw, it was to no avail as Richmond Hill were successful in all four of theirs and the score maintained its 2-point margin.
Other Packers who scored during the match against Richmond Hill were: Zay Williams, Keyontae Simpson, Naryan Sumlin, Zy Alridge, Jae Lamar and Jakari Byrd.
When the Lady Packers played Richmond Hill they had to fight hard for their victory.
After trailing behind in every quarter, the Lady Packers went into the fourth quarter 1-point behind.
Ameris Walters-Smith, with 6:20 left, scored a rebound basket, which is when the Lady Packers took the lead they would maintain the remainder of the game.
