January and February are filled with Parks and Recreation activities

MOULTRIE — The Moultrie Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Authority has a variety of free and low-cost events especially for adults 50 and older in the coming months. Here are events being offered for the months of January and February.

Cardio Drumming will be offered Friday, Jan. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to noon at the Ryce Community Center; Friday, Jan. 9, from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Tommy Meredith Gym and Tuesday, Jan. 30, from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Ryce Community Center. Cardio drumming is a fitness activity that combines drumming with light cardiovascular exercise. Participants use drumsticks and exercise on stability balls, creating rhythmic beats while performing various low impact aerobics movements — sitting or standing. It’s a fun, full-body workout that enhances coordination, cardiovascular health, and endurance. The cost is $5 per session and space is limited so pre-register today!

There will be an arts & crafts, board games and puzzle event on Tuesday, Jan. 16, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ryce Community Center. Spend a relaxing morning creating and playing. Coffee and doughnuts will be provided. To participate, let the office know no later than Monday, Jan. 15.

Pickle Ball will be on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m., and/or Friday, Feb. 23, at 5 p.m., at the Tommy Meredith Gym. To participate, let the office know by the day before.

Learn the quick rising technique to bread baking. All that is needed is a large mixing bowl and a kitchen towel to drape over it. Two sessions will be offered at the Ryce Community Center on Monday, Jan., 22, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. or 5:30 to 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per person, and everyone will leave with a delicious loaf of bread ready to bake at home. Limit 8 per session. Register no later than Tuesday, Jan. 20.

A soup and sandwich dinner with conversation and a dessert or two will be held on Friday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m., at the Ryce Community Center. The cost is $5 per person. Register by noon on Jan. 25.

All supplies are provided to make as many Valentine or birthday cards as possible! Join the fun on Thursday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Ryce Community Center and bring a treat to share.

Drinks will be provided. $5 person covers costs of supplies and drinks. Register by Wednesday, Feb. 7.

Friday, Feb. 9, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Tommy Meredith Gym will be hosting a “Young at Heart Valentine Party” with music of days gone by, sweet treats and good friends. Photo ops will be available and light dinner fare will be served. Tickets are $10. The deadline to buy tickets is Feb. 5.

Bring that unwanted Christmas gift to the White Elephant Bingo table and let someone else enjoy it! One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Bring a treat to share and enjoy good company on Tuesday, Feb. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Ryce Community Center. Drinks will be provided.

Everyone is invited to join a book club where they can explore diverse literary works, share perspectives, and engage in thought-provoking discussions. Books will be picked from different genres each month, ensuring a mix of mystery, fantasy, non-fiction, and more. It adds an element of surprise and keeps things interesting. The group will decide when to meet again. Organizational meetings will take place Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Tommy Meredith Gym and again Monday, Feb. 26, from 5 to 6 p.m., at the Ryce Community Center.

Meet other dog owners for National Walk Your Dog Day at the Tom White Liner Park walking trail. MCCPRA will set up at the Lower Meigs trail head with door prize baskets for participants. Join them from 3 to 5 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 22.
