QUITMAN — Presbyterian Homes Quitman, a life plan community, was in the direct path of Hurricane Helene Friday morning.
An email from Chuck Toney of C. Toney Communications provided an update from the facility’s leadership:
We are currently without power and are maintaining basic services to residents through generator power. We are preparing for an extended outage.
There is no significant damage to any of the buildings on campus. Water and sewer service are fully functional. The kitchen is operating with an adequate supply of food. Medical, sanitation, and other supplies are also sufficient. Telephone lines, cell service, and Internet service are intermittent.
“We are experiencing the same outages that our neighbors in South Georgia are experiencing,” said Rhett Partin, Presbyterian Homes of Georgia COO. “We are thankful that we are able to meet the needs of all our residents at this time. There have been no significant medical events, no resident injuries, no transfers to hospitals, and no evacuations. We are doing all we can to maintain the highest level of service and compassionate care for our residents.”
Nurses and staff from other Presbyterian Homes campuses have been assigned to Quitman to assist with resident care.
While the region’s communications systems suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Helene, we are making every effort to communicate with the families of our residents if there are significant changes to conditions on the campus.
We will provide additional updates as the recovery process continues.
