THOMASVILLE — Bacon County High School’s football team forfeited a game Friday night against Thomasville High School due to “serious threats on social media,” the Bacon County Board of Education said on its Facebook page.
“The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, staff, and attendees are of utmost importance,” the statement said. “After careful consideration, we have decided it would be best not to put anyone in a potentially hostile situation.”
The statement did not offer details about the specific threats, but online threats have abounded across the country since the deadly shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder Sept. 4.
The game was to have been Thomasville High’s homecoming. THS announced on its Facebook page that the Homecoming Queen would be announced at the dance Saturday night, and the entire court will be recognized at a future home game.
