EDITORIAL: Our app is going away — but don’t panic

The Moultrie Observer greatly appreciates all of its readers, whether you access us in print or over the internet.
For several years now, when people looked for us online, we’ve been able to say, “There’s an app for that!” Starting Oct. 1, there will not be.
We are streamlining our online operations. The application’s content is identical to that available on our website, which is accessible through a user’s web browser. Ending support for the app should allow us to focus on ways to meet your information needs in a simpler fashion.
If you enjoy the convenience of one-touch access to The Observer’s journalism, though, the solution is waiting right on your phone, tablet or other device.
We will continue to provide our digital product at www.moultrieobserver.com, and with a few simple steps you can set that as a link on the home screen of your mobile device.
For Android products
• Open the browser that you use to access the internet such as Chrome.
• Type in www.moultrieobserver.com in the URL line.
• Click on the three dot menu in the top right hand corner of the screen
• When the menu drops down, scroll down to “Add to Home screen” and it will be on your home screen just as your apps are.
For IPhone
• Open the browser that you use to access the internet such as Firefox.
• Type in www.moultrieobserver.com in the URL line.
• Tap on the “Share” icon at the bottom of the screen (it’s a box with an arrow pointing up)
• When menu drops down, scroll down to “Add to Home screen” and the website will be on your home screen just as your apps are.
The link will show up with our logo, similar to the way the app is displayed, and one click of that link will take you to our website, just as one click on the app icon launched the app.
The Moultrie Observer is committed, first of all, to covering our community, and we are committed to providing you with that information in an online format. Our website is a great way to keep up with what’s happening in Moultrie and Colquitt County, and the discontinuation of our app won’t change that.
We will continue to be “Your Friend and Neighbor” both in print and at www.moultrieobserver.com.
